A Giant Dewittian
Chill Pill

The Story of the Pill
While forced to live in hotels to do temp engineering jobs a thousand miles from home, I set out to make good use of my time after each 8 hour day. Compared to all my previous 24-track recordings, this project was recorded with no standard equipment like outboard mixing consoles. Instead, I used only what could fit into my car (2 guitars & a computer). That's all that went with me for the ten months away from my home. Therefore I'd like to give thanks to:
1. The designers of the digital pickup, it was like a dream come true, because I was able to record
every sound without keyboards (except background vocals on track 1).
2. The programmers who have advanced amp simulation, orchestra scoring, and digital recording
software. Back when I started out I had to buy every amp and guitar if I wanted a certain sound
when I played, but now I just modify it on the software! Ever since I was a child I dreamed of
being able to hear the instrument play the notes as I wrote them on the staff. Now with
computers it's even more fun than I thought it would be.
3. The people at the hotels I lived in while doing the work: Comfort Inn (Warsaw, IN) and Days Inn
(New Bedford, MA).
Give "A Giant Dewittian Chill Pill" a listen, and if you think you might like it, don't forget to go to CDBaby and buy it. I need your support to continue recording!

"To Do or Not To Do" is crafted around the syllable "do." Its strong melody carries all the way through and it's sweetly brought to life with acoustic guitar and beautiful vocal harmonies. Though it's more than six minutes long, it builds and backs off in just the right places...much like being on a passenger train with ups and downs.
"This piece took 35 years to write! I started when I was fifteen years old on my acoustic guitar; which is the core of the chord structure and finger picking. Now (after all that time) I have the guitar synth and unlimited tracks to record on the song, so it has taken on a life of its own".
To listen to the complete piece watch the video below.
This piece is one of those transitional songs to help you cast off the day's events. The soft instrumentation will rock you into dream land.
"This song was one of my very first slow, quiet songs. (I was mostly known for Alternative Rock) Anyway, I wrote it in 20 minutes after I got home from having a tooth pulled. The drugs from the procedure slowed me down long enough to write it. How was I to know years later I'd be doing a whole album of mellow finger picking guitar stuff? This music is the kind that swirls around in your head when you have to do those mundane, zoned-out type of tasks--it removes the boredom and takes you to another place."
"This piece is still very precious to me. I de-tuned the bottom two strings on my acoustic years ago and have played the piece with just the guitar for a long time. But I always wondered when I'd come up with a main melody. When I received a call from an old music-business friend regarding some work for a record company that motivated me to finish the finger picking parts on the guitar and to avail my soul to what else this piece needed. Voila! There was the melody and there were horns!! It filled my head and my heart. My roots are still in Classical music and I love a good melody and it feels great to finish something that I always knew had great potential."
This piece is like shouting in a canyon and hearing the echo come off the walls. You're alone, but you're comforted by your own voice as the song surrounds you with sonic splendor.
"I call it Lost But Happy because I do get lost in the swirling slide guitar that's all over the place. Even though it's a sad, haunting sound I'm still happy because I didn't think I could write something that I'd be content with that didn't have a melody I could sing along with."
"This one has a little Beatles flavor in terms of the melody. It's very driven by violins, and is one of those songs that can speak Divine Messages to your soul. Originally I used an acoustic guitar to play this piece and I really liked the finger picking. When I switched to the electric guitar and slowed it down I heard the violin melody calling out from the depths of my soul. Often I don't create melodies while I compose; instead I've learned to "wait and listen" for the melody that's already there to reveal itself."
"Each tune takes a journey as I write just like when I listen to it.. Usually starts with one or two guitar finger picking ideas and then my mind hears each of the other sections as I start adding the melody that goes with the chords. The journey may take me from one mood to another, and sometimes I feel like the arranger just blending something that has taken on a life of it's own. "Never Give Up" starts the journey with sadness, then moves to creepy, then breaks out into joy; when all I started the journey with was a few guitar doodles."
When I began this I had no idea it would take on a little Native American feel to it, and that's just my limited assumption of what that might sound like. After I had the first section finished, I felt a pull on me to sing in the background something that would express longing for peace. Not knowing any language except English, I ended up just letting any syllable that came to mind help me express the background melody. I'm glad the release ended up with such a variety of styles and I hope this piece gives a glimpse into their culture.
This sample is about 2 minutes long but the track is 4:00 min.
"I put this happy little tune in right here in order to lighten up after such a serious tune. I've been playing this on my acoustic to cheer me up for a while now. I just couldn't resist the finger snapping like the original version I recorded on a four-track years ago."
This sample is about 2 minutes long but the track is 3:29 min.
"I like to think that every person who listens, follows me on the journey that is the song. I named this one after the way the slide never sticks anywhere, but just keeps on moving. I hope you enjoy the overall journey like I still do when I shut off the world and listen to the whole album with headphones."
